How to Use the Mystical Heirloom – God of War Ragnarok Wiki Guide

In God of War Ragnarok, one of the equippable Relics that you can find is a Mystical Heirloom, which seems to serve no purpose. This page contains information both on how to find the Mystical Heirloom, and how to unlock its power by using it to summon certain encounters.

Warning: This page contains certain spoilers regarding areas and abilities later in the game, if you wish to avoid spoilers, return after completing the Forging Destiny chapter!

Once you have completed Chapter 10 – Forging Destiny, and have unlocked a new item to open up pathways, return to Midgard’s Lake of Nine, and travel south of Tyr’s Temple along a large icy wall above the path to The Lost Treasury.

Look for a yellow wind vent in an ice block that denotes a destructible environment, and throw your new tool at the ice block and detonate it to open a path into a small crevice.

After destroying the ice block, look in the crevice to the left, and you will find the body of a dwarf alongside a mysterious Relic and a Lore scroll.

Unlike other Relics you find in God of War Ragnarok, the Mystical Heirloom says that “It seems important, but doesn’t have any practical application in combat.” Indeed, using it will have Kratos bang the device on his wrist to seemingly no effect, and its short cooldown of 16 seconds allows it to be used frequently.

Noting that the Relic info says that it “awakens something dormant”, you may notice the nearby Lore Scroll mentions the purchase of the heirloom to one “Avliss Stonefoot”. It’s entirely possible you’ve seen that name before, as its integral to the Mystical Heirloom’s purpose.

Across the different realms of Midgard, you may find different large life-like statues of Trolls with their giant pillar-like weapons, most of which are located near a Lore Marker. These Lore Markers actually describe the Troll in question, and mention being imprisoned and “put to sleep” by the same Alviss Stonefoot.

Putting these together, one can use the Mystical Heirloom to reawaken these slumbering Trolls and engage them as mini-boss fights! They can be challenging, and reminiscent of the many Troll fights in the previous God of War Game. Defeating them will also earn you Slumber Stones, a unique resource only found on these enemies that will unlock a Crafting Labor to create the Steinbjorn Armor at any Dwarven Shop. This armor is an extremely powerful defensive set, as it allows you to stun enemies and heal yourself when taking damage.

Below, you’ll find the locations of all the enemies you can awaken using the Mystical Heirloom.

Bloodugr Steinn

  • Location: The Derelict Outpost, Midgard

The closest Troll to awaken from where you find the Mystical Heirloom, simply travel west at the edge of the Lake of Nine to reach the Derelict Outpost. You’ll find a giant troll statue waiting as you cross the first gap after climbing up to enter the ruins.

In addition to dropping Slumber Stone, he will also drop the Poison Protector Enchantment, which can help immensely against Seidr or poison minibosses.

Bjarg Stormr

  • Location: The Forbidden Sands, Alfheim

This Troll can be found in the far northwestern edge of the Alfheim Forbidden Sands, but can only be reached once you have cleared the sandstorm by freeing the Hafgufa from its prison. It’s surrounded by bodies of elves all around, and like other trolls, will try to blind you with ash and summoned rocks.

In addition to dropping Slumber Stone, it will also drop the Stone Idol of Souls Enchantment, which adds life and rage-stealing effects to your attacks after using a Healthstone or Ragestone.

Golrab of the Ashes and Frost

  • Location: Noatun’s Garden, Vanaheim

Not one, but two slumbering Trolls await you on the eastern river path along the river delta, east of the Cliffside Ruins and Pilgrim’s Landing at Noatun’s Garden (which you should clear of poison spreading hazards first). Fighting two trolls will be quite a challenge, as in addition to trying to blind you, one will be imbued with frost, and the other with flame – and trying to use a weapon with the same effect will be negated and hit you with a freezing or burning status.

Defeating both of them will yield more Slumber Stone, as well as the mighty Momentous Stride Enchantment, powering your Permafrost, Immolation, and Malestrom gauges when dodging at the last moment.
